Tamil University Museum

    The Tamil University Museum at Thanjavur in the state of Tamil Nadu is an important museum for its storage of the ancient historical objects. It was established in the year 1983 as a multipurpose museum.

    Objects that are exhibited in the museum for the visitors to look upon include cultural objects, replicas of Indus Valley, tools of beads, burial urns, inscriptions on stone in Tamil and Marathi, coins, sculptures, bronze images, wood carvings,

arms, models ofcontemporary paintings, Chellinar house, utensils and knives.

    In addition to these, there are also objects like swan, leather puppets, Rajasthani lamps, musical instruments, ivory inlay, Paleolithic, Neolithic, replica of Yazhappanam seal and pottery pieces.

    Historians, research scholars and general visitors are welcome to visit the museum between 10:30am to 1pm and 2:30pm to 5pm. The museum observes holidays on Saturdays, Sundays and university holidays.

    Saraswati Mahal Museum at Thanjavur in the state of Tamil Nadu is an important museum for its storage of valuable objects of the ancient past. This museum was established in the year 1935 as an Art museum.

    Today, the museum has in its store an accumulation of varied objects, such as, very important palm leaf manuscripts, Ramayan, paper manuscripts, copper Mahabharat, manuscripts, Gaj and Ashva shastras, and wooden objects.

    Apart from these, there are also 1832 Daniel etchings, pictorial bible, paintings of birds, dresses, plate, Shahnama with paintings, printed papers in Devnagary, English of 1803 AD, paintings of plants, maps, drawings and printed books.

    The museum welcomes people to visit from 10am to 1pm and 1:30pm to 5:30pm.
